Goodwill Takes It Start to Finish in 2009
David Goodwill was the winner for the first race for 2009, seven in between and the last race of 2009. In only his third season on pavement, he knows his way around the asphalt of the three different tracks the NCMA Sprints run on. Stockton 99 seems a fitting way to end the year. Napa’s Goodwill made a clean sweep of the evening as he set fast time, leader of the pack in the Trophy Dash and won the Main Event. That being said Jimmy Riddell was second quick, as he was only .103 behind Goodwill. Ed Amador was third up, Pat Ariaz fourth and David Burchett came in fifth. All in the 13.00’s.
From last to first Goodwill’s Lito Auto Body sprint ran away with the Dash. Ed Amador brought in a nice second with Pat Ariaz in third. Jimmy Riddell ended up leaving the track.
Patterson’s Steve Amador in his third race of 2009 and Burt Siverling were the front row for the main event. Burchett and Ariaz, the second row. Ed Amador started fifth. S. Amador was the lead for the first lap, Siverling led the second lap. Goodwill made it from the last row to second in that second lap. By the fifth go round, Goodwill was leading, Siverling held on to the next spot, Ariaz was third, and Riddell made it from the back to fourth. By then Ariaz and Riddell were duking it out for the second spot, with Riddell finally making it. Ariaz hung on to third and Ed Amador ran around Siverling for fourth. Siverling did finish fifth, completing a great season for him.
NCMA Sprints have completed the pavement portion with the race this evening. Next up will be the annual banquet, scheduled for December 10th at Chez Shari in Manteca. The tickets are $30 each and can be purchased through several individuals who are listed on the website. We are looking forward to celebrating the 2009 race season with all the NCMA drivers, owners, crews and members. |

Riddell Rules at All American Speedway
Modesto’s Jimmy Riddell was the man to beat this evening as he set fast time and won the main event.
NCMA Sprints made their final run at All American Speedway for the 2009 season and Riddell started the night by setting fast time. Jerry Kobza of Roseville was second quick. Napa’s David Goodwill came in third fast, Pat Ariaz from Manteca was fourth and Ed Amador filled the five spot.
The evening’s race program was a little varied as this night as the 2009 Vintage Classic IV was going on. West Capitol Raceway Reunion had invited NCMA Sprints to race after their West Capitol Raceway Reunion. They have a great BBQ and induct several people into their hall of fame. ‘Exhibition’ vintage racing comes up next and many of the same cars that were raced at West Capitol have been restored and took the track for some fun.
After several classes of the vintage cars had some track time the NCMA Trophy Dash was held. The Trophy Dash was set up with the four quick qualifiers vying for the win. Ariaz and Goodwill made up the front row with Kobza and Riddell right behind them. Goodwill grabbed the lead, and set the pace. Riddell gave a good chase but never quite got there. Kobza and Ariaz took third and fourth.
Don Emory from Chico and Concord’s Burt Siverling brought the pack to the green. David Burchett and Rob Hammond made up the second row. Hammond had the lead by the completion of the first lap and was lookin’ good. Goodwill, Kobza and Riddell were heading for the front. Riddell wove in and out and hit clean air about lap five. By the tenth go round Kobza was barking at him but not quite able to nip him. Goodwill was holding his own and making third look easy. Some laps later, Riddell, Kobza and Goodwill started lapping sprints. Riddell owned the track tonight and Kobza was gonna get him. Instead he punted Hammond from the rear which chain reacted Hammond into Ariaz. Ariaz ended up with his tail in the wall and Hammond didn’t stop until he was head on into the back stretch wall. Being towed off the track was not the way he planned on ending his season, especially starting the evening third in points. Ariaz was able to finish the evening. At the end of the night with one pavement race to go, Ariaz said,” I’m leaving it just like it is to finish this season.” On the restart, Ariaz and Kobza were sent to the rear of the pack. Racing was fast and furious as Kobza was still headed for the front. Riddell took the checkers with Goodwill second, Tracy’s Burchett finished in third. Kobza did make it back to fourth and Amador was fifth. Ariaz wasn’t too shabby either as he finished sixth.
NCMA Sprints will play in the dirt of Chowchilla Speedway, Saturday night, September 26th. Please check their website www.racechowchilla.com for the race schedule and times. |

Super Eight for Goodwill
By: Sharyn Bragg
“We’re having a Blast” commented Goodwill after his win this evening. Goodwill, Napa’s premier driver, didn’t set fast time, nor win the Trophy Dash, but when the Main Event was at hand, Goodwill took it in hand. All American Speedway looked like home to the Lito Auto Body #3.
Jimmy Riddell was first fast tonight, he has done this more than once this season and his neon and black sprinter just looks fast. Goodwill was right behind him. Rob Hammond, who has not been a slouch this season either, was third. Fourth was Jerry Kobza and Burt Siverling was fifth quick.
This was Fan Appreciation Night at the Roseville track and the format was slightly different. Dashes and Main Events and time for fans to meet their favorite drivers. Dashes are always set by qualifying and that put Riddell in fourth position. Hammond started on the pole with Kobza on the outside. Goodwill and Riddell second row. In four fast laps, Kobza grabbed the win, Hammond held second and Goodwill was third. Bad luck bit Riddell again as he didn’t get a lap in and lost his motor.
Ready, Set, Main Event! Ed Amador and David Burchett brought the pack around to the green. Amador led the first lap but by the third lap in Goodwill was right there coming from the back. A third of the race over and “Hot Rob” Hammond had taken over second. Kobza was third and Amador held onto fourth. These four sprinters could have been called a freight train except there were about five car lengths in between each one of them. They were evenly spaced and breathing clean air. With about ten to go, Goodwill started lapping cars, weaving in and out like he was driving in freeway traffic. This race went from green to checkers without a hitch. Bill Logan, who has joined NCMA Sprints recently, had a problem, but took it to the infield instead of making a caution. Don Emery towed all the way from Chico to have his first run with the sprinters, and his first run ever on pavement. He got through a third of the event and exited without a yellow also. This give credence to the NCMA Sprints termed as the “gentlemen of the race track”. The Gentlemen have two races left on pavement this season. The second to last will be back at All American Speedway on September 19th. Included will be a great day of the old and the new as we join the West Capitol Speedway Reunion on Saturday, September 19th. The day will start with the induction of West Capitol Alumni adding to their Hall of Fame during a great Barbeque. There will be a static show, and some on track racing of the vintage racers.

Lucky Seven for Goodwill
David Goodwill wowed the crowd at Madera Speedway to claim his seventh win of the 2009 season. With only two pavement races left, he has been very dominant. The driver, who took the pavement plunge only three years ago, proves that once you have been a dirt track winner you usually transfer to the pavement quite well.
Qualifying was a different matter this evening as Jimmy Riddell set fast time and broke the track record set by Jimmy Lavell several years ago. Napa’s Goodwill was second with Burt Siverling (who has been working very hard in 2009) coming in third quick.
Ripon’s Denny Burrell who was second quick in first practice slapped the back straight wall his second time out and wadded his sprinter up and spent the rest of practice loading it in the hauler. Track officials stated they found brake parts on track after thinking he probably lost the right front brake rotor, causing what Burrell described as “ all of a sudden, coming out of turn two, the car just went wicked loose”.
Dashes were held instead of heats tonight. Ed Amador took the first dash taking it away from Siverling on the last lap by taking the inside line on turn three. Rob Hammond had the lead at the checkered of the second dash but by only a speck from Pat Ariaz.
Starting the Main Event, David Burchett held the pole with Hammond on the outside. Hammond was in the front for the first five laps and Goodwill was coming through the pack with Riddell not far behind. A couple more rounds and Goodwill got around Hammond and Riddell was right behind Hammond. A little past the halfway point and Riddell was right behind Goodwill. And then the wow factor started as Riddell driving his flashy #19 took the lead from Goodwill on lap 19. An omen? Goodwill grabbed it back a few laps later and this went on until Goodwill took the final flag. Hammond maintained the third spot. Pat Ariaz was fourth and Ed Amador rounded out the top five. This was probably the most exciting race of 2009. All green to checkered, no yellows, no reds, just great racing. At the winners circle, Goodwill stretched a hand out to Riddell and said, “You raced me clean every lap.” There can’t be a better ending to NCMA’s final run a Madera Speedway for this season.
Ready to roll this Saturday, August 22nd at All American Speedway in Roseville the NCMA Sprints look forward to their run on the quick quarter mile and your attendance there will make it even more exciting. Check the track website for times. See you there! |

Ariaz is Awesome!
By Sharyn Bragg
Manteca’s Pat Ariaz has finally worked out the bugs and had a great evening of racing this evening at the New Stockton 99 Speedway. David Goodwill from Napa nailed fast time with Modesto’s Ed Amador a close second. Rob Hammond came over the hill, Morgan Hill that is, to take third quick. Woodland’s Gary Koster was fourth and Ariaz aced fifth quick.
Heat I had Ariaz take the lead on the first lap and sail to the first to take the checkers. Ripon’s Denny Burrell was second and Burt “the Iron man” Siverling was third. Heat II found Hammond jump to the front, another lap and Koster took Hammond on the inside for the lead. Amador and Goodwill were having a go at it but in the end, Goodwill finished in second, Hammond third, and Amador fourth.
Koster in his All Points Petroleum Sprint claimed the Trophy Dash. Goodwill in his Napa Auto Parts Sprinter had the fastest lap of the Dash.
With thirty laps ahead of them, Siverling and Burrell brought the pack to the green. Burrell led the first lap, but by the third lap Ariaz was leading the way. And lead the way he did for the rest of the race. As his crew chief, Fred Kuntz, so aptly put it,” Pat was running in an entirely different zip code tonight!” Burrell did a good job running in the number two spot. With only a few laps remaining, Koster managed to make it around him. Goodwill was right there with him claiming third. Burrell was fourth, Ed Amador’s Toste Dairy ride rounded out the top five. |
